Fruit and Nut Oatmeal Topper

This hearty breakfast dish takes an old favorite and adds some fun. The cranberries, apples and walnuts are a great addition.
 

Ingredients

  • 4 pkg plain instant oatmeal individual servings
  • 1/2 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1 large apple, peeled and medium dice 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, or to taste
  • Optional: whipped cream

Method

In a microwave safe dish, combine cranberries, apple, walnuts and water. Sprinkle with cinnamon, cover, and microwave three minutes. Cooking time may vary according to size of berries and apples. Fruit must be cooked soft, but not mushy. Cook in 30 second intervals until the right texture is achieved. Prepare oatmeal according to package directions. Top with fruit and nut mixture. Optional: top all with whipped cream.
