Holiday Malted Milk Scones

These scones are a great tradition to have for the holiday season. The chocolate chips and malted milk balls really add a fun flavor to this treat.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup chocolate malted milk powder
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup cold butter
- 6 ounces sour cream
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar
- 2 squares (1 oz each) semi-sweet chocolate, melted
- 1/3 cup crushed malted milk balls

Method
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl, whisk sour cream, buttermilk, egg and extract; add to crumb mixture just until moistened. Stir in chocolate chips. Turn onto a floured surface and knead 10 times. Divide dough in half and transfer each portion to a greased baking sheet. Pat into 6-inch circle. Cut into six wedges, but do not separate. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400 for 18 to 20 minutes or until puffed and tops are cracked. Remove to wire racks and cool slightly. Drizzle with melted chocolate and sprinkle crushed malted milk balls.
